Gus2004 MERLOT

The name Merlot conjures up many images of wine. However, when you think of the finest quality, the wines of Bordeaux, specifically those from the right bank of the Dordogne River in the Village or Pomerol come to mind. Here one finds the wines of the likes of Chateau Petrus, L’Evangile and Le Pin. Much like those vineyards, our estate wines produce Merlot with opulence, finesse and rich ripe fruit. The 2004 Vintage was a classic growing season which allowed for wonderful flavor development. The crop was exceptionally small and produced grapes with great intensity.

Winemaking
This Merlot is a blend of 75% Merlot with 12.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, giving the wine a “strong backbone,” along with 12.5% Cabernet Franc for spice. The wine displays a dense dark ruby color with aromas of complex ripe black currants, chocolate, and spice with floral notes. In the mouth the wine reveals flavors of blackberries, spice, minerals, mocha, with round ripe tannins. The wine will continue to develop for years and live for 15 years or more.
